IMPORTING TO ZAMBIA
GET TRUCK exports Japanese used trucks to customers and businesses in Zambia. Confirm the vehicle details, current taxes and import requirements before purchase.
Vehicle age can affect the taxes, charges and final landed cost. Older models such as Canter 4D33, Toyota Dyna 14B / 15B and Fuso Fighter 6D16 may still be attractive, but the total cost should be checked before purchase.
Possible charges include customs or import duty, excise duty, VAT, registration-related fees, carbon emissions surtax and other applicable fees. Treatment can depend on the vehicle type, engine capacity, value and age.
Zambia is landlocked. Trucks are shipped through a suitable regional port and transported overland. The route depends on vessel schedules, freight cost and the customer's location in Zambia.
BEFORE YOU BUY
Import duties, taxes, vehicle valuation methods and other requirements may change. Confirm the latest information with the Zambia Revenue Authority and other relevant Zambian authorities before purchasing or shipping a vehicle.
Information reviewed: August 2026ROADWORTHINESS INSPECTION
ZCSA implements compulsory Zambian Standard ZS 560 through a pre-shipment Roadworthiness Inspection scheme. Used motor vehicles destined for Zambia are inspected by appointed agents in Japan before export.
Inspection may include vehicle identity, engine and transmission, brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, lights, exhaust and emissions, underside, body structure and safety equipment.
When the vehicle complies with the applicable roadworthiness standard, the required certification is issued for its importation into Zambia.
A vehicle shipped without inspection by a ZCSA-appointed agent may incur a penalty based on vehicle size, along with additional procedures, charges and clearance delays.
