TBS states that used motor vehicles shipped from Japan are subject to Pre-Shipment Verification of Conformity (PVoC) and inspection before shipment. The required certificate is used during clearance in Tanzania.

PRE-SHIPMENT INSPECTION
Inspect in Japan
before shipping.
TBS requires used motor vehicles exported from Japan to Tanzania to undergo Pre-Shipment Verification of Conformity (PVoC) before shipment. The process checks conformity with applicable Tanzanian roadworthiness and safety standards.
What may be checked
Inspection may cover vehicle identity and chassis number, engine condition, brakes, steering, suspension, tyres and wheels, lights and electrical equipment, exhaust and emissions, body structure and general roadworthiness.
Certificate & clearance
When the vehicle complies with the relevant standard, the inspection provider issues a Certificate of Roadworthiness. TBS authentication of the certificate and shipping documents supports clearance at the point of entry.
Without certification
An uninspected vehicle may face destination inspection, additional charges, penalties, rejection or customs delays. If it does not comply with the relevant standard, further enforcement action may apply.
